week 4- techno-ology
This week in class we talked about ergonomics, and it really brought attention to sustainability and technology and the relationship it has. from a biological point of view along with a humanitarian view. biologically it seems the more advanced we get the more we notice that this rate of progress is not sustainable. technologically our society has been rapidly progressing for a long time to the point where being human 50 years from now is drastically different to living now in a lot of ways. The food we eat, how we communicate what society perceives as odd or normal have all changed drastically and even the way humans' views humanity. prior to the gigantic technological leap's humans were less aware of our capabilities and the idea of us having any sort of control over things like asteroids and weather was science fiction but this is now something a lot of the new generation believe we are capable of. This has raised many questions of how much power should humans really have to make a better world. a lot of acts that humans have done haven't contributed to a better world, but we have the capability now to play God in certain scenarios. our whole purpose for living has shifted it isn't just serving and making the best out of the world/life we have it has now turned into a new game of transforming our environment in order to gain the most out of it. I believe we are misled in that way. how much do we truly need to be happy; Technology is similar to drugs in that, society is looking for a fix of technology every year. Which makes it hard to notice that they are missing out on key parts of life that are crucial to being human, things like face-to-face interactions or actually seeing food being grown from the ground and put onto your plate, it has made us very ungrateful and unaware of the mean that are actually behind this easy life we live. life isn't as snappy as technology, and we have made ourselves accustomed to our new life in technology this is why we have a rise in things like low tension spans. we have stopped trying to maximize our own potential as a society and have shifted our focus on to the potential of technology. we are machines just like computers we just take a lot longer to code. while doing some independent research I found this article called technology friend or foe and it claims that it is instead the way children are taught to use technology which I do agree with, technology holds a lot of power for positivity and negativity. just like the first week's ted talk said it amplifies thoughts and ideas.
